Tradition of the "Ndrezzata"

Barano, a municipality on the island of Ischia, was established in 1806. The population is spread across four districts. Buonopane, a village at 280 m above sea level, preserves the tradition of the "Ndrezzata," a dance with ancient, possibly Greek origins. The 18 dancers perform in the churchyard of San Giovanni Battista twice a year, on the Monday in Albis and June 24th, the feast of the patron saint.
